Political and Security Risk Manager – Africa

Castor Vali is looking for exceptional and experienced candidates to assist in managing its growing Security Information Services (SIS) department in Nairobi, Kenya. The SIS department comprises dedicated and experienced Africa-focused political and security risk analysts split across three regional hubs in South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria that monitor political, security and economic developments across all 54 states in Africa.

The types of security incidents and trends monitored, forecasted and analysed by our SIS team typically pertains to the following categories: Militancy/terrorism; Conflict, including ethnic/ inter-communal; Crime and banditry; Piracy and maritime crime; Civil unrest; Kidnapping; Political instability and violence; Disease updates; Infrastructure disruptions; and, Extreme weather events.

To this end, the SIS team produces subscription-based and ad hoc assessments to give our global clients across Africa a comprehensive understanding of the political and security environments in Africa, where they operate. Subscription products include dailies, alerts, weeklies, monthlies etc as part of country packages and ad hoc reports include products like Journey threat assessments, Security risk assessments, Intelligence briefings and pre-market entry assessments, among others.

Qualifications, Experience and Qualities:

  • At least five years’ experience in a relevant position within the political and country risk sector, or within a complementary sector, such as global consultancies.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of pan-African security issues, particularly around security risks like terrorism, conflict, piracy, and kidnapping.
  • Impeccable written and spoken English with a high standard in report editing and attention to detail.
  • Ability to compile standard security risk products is imperative.
  • Demonstrable experience managing a team and/or complex research projects;
  • Excellent communication skills, and a keen interest in others’ professional development.
  • Proven client engagement skills, either in the form of proposal writing or presentation skills.
  • A postgraduate qualification and a strong academic record, averaging 65 percent and above in a relevant degree – such as political science, international relations, intelligence, criminal investigations, or strategic studies etc.
  • Experience of living and/or working in Africa is preferred but not essential;
  • A growing contact/network base that can be called upon to verify information/contribute to ad hoc work in Africa.
  • Fluency in a non-English language is preferred but not essential; and,
  • Applicants should have the ability to work with little supervision, to tight deadlines, be reliable, and be willing to work overtime when required to meet client requests.

Front Office Professional

The Front Office Professional role involves acting as the first point of contact among all internal and external stakeholders for a clients offices in Nairobi, Kenya. The role involves directing visitors to the business site to a proper department/office location. Answering phone calls, letters, and emails and/or directing these communications to the correct department/staff person and ensuring clients and visitors to the site feel welcomed and answering all of their questions.

Ultimately, the role holder will contribute to the efficiency of our business by providing personalised and timely support to internal and external stakeholders vising our site.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  • A diploma course in public relations, communication, business administration or any related course.

Security Risk Controller (2 Positions), Nairobi, Kenya

Castor Vali Africa is looking for an experienced Security Risk Controller to identify, evaluate and escalate proactively and cost-effectively any security threats within the client’s premises. The Security Risk Controller will be expected to do this through multiple professional skills gained through experience and training. ​This position is for Nairobi, Kenya but the prospective candidate is expected to be flexible to be redeployed to other client sites within Kenya.

Professional qualifications, knowledge and skills required:

  • Experience & Training – A minimum of two years control room experience, and/or practical experience in a related security field or law enforcement is desired.
  • Certificate Course or Diploma in Security Management or its equivalent from a recognized institution is desired.
  • Training in Information Technology Systems is an added advantage.
  • High School Certificate is a must preferably a minimum of KCSE certificate with a grade of C and above.
  • Current Certificate of Good Conduct from Kenya Police Service.
  • Ability to apply modern office practices and use of computer skills.
  • An analytical mind with problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to apply the principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting.
  • Ability to apply the principles and procedures of office and telephone etiquette standards.
  • Ability to learn and operate control room equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ability to learn the procedures, functions, and limitations of assigned position, prepare, and maintain accurate, clear, concise, and complete factual reports.
  • Ability to respond to requests and inquiries from staff and the public.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. 
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of data and information, exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Capability to work in 12-hour shifts & ready to work night shifts.
  • Driving Skills/License with classes FG (NTSA class A) endorsement for motorbike operation will be an added advantage.

Business Development Lead (Kenya National), Nairobi, Kenya

Castor Vali is seeking experienced and qualified Business Development candidates, to join our growing team, in Nairobi Kenya. Personnel must possess a high level of business acumen, including having exposure to client interaction and proposal/tender writing. Candidates will have the opportunity to work out of our Regional Headquarters and support our team.

US Maritime Security Officers
Castor Vali requires US passport holders with experience in Maritime Security who hold the relevant qualifications to work at sea. Applicants must be able to prove prior experience of operating in a MARSEC role.

Minimum qualifications required:

  • Seaman’s Card and Discharge Book
  • Maritime Firearms Competency Course Certificate
  • FPOS(i) or equivalent recognised medical trauma training
  • STCW (Elementary First Aid, Fire fighting & Fire Prevention, Personal Survival Techniques and Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities)

  • Clean criminal background check (DBS check or national equivalent)
