Castor Vali’s Security Information Services (SiS) department provides our clients with accurate, verified, and timely information to empower their operations in key geographies whilst maintaining awareness of areas of interest. Services provided by this department include:

  • Daily incident briefings of political, economic and security developments
  • SMS and email alerting of significant security incidents
  • Weekly and monthly risk monitoring and forecasting
  • Ad hoc analytical assessments on topics of interest
  • Bespoke Threat Assessments and Security Risk Assessments
  • COVID-19 country risk reporting

Job Title: Senior Political and Security Risk Analyst
Duty Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Summary:

Castor Vali is looking for an exceptional candidate to join our growing SiS team based in Nairobi, Kenya. This role will be focused specifically on East African political and security risk and will involve the candidate working on some of the above products for the region, but will also include ad hoc pan-African reporting as well in addition to assistance with case management.

We pride ourselves on producing high quality, client-focused products. As such, the successful candidate will need to have the following:

Experience and competencies

  • At least three years experience in a relevant position within political and security risk, or within a complementary sector, such as government, NGOs, civil society, or the media.
  • A postgraduate qualification with a very strong academic record.
  • An existing specialism in East African affairs.
  • Excellent written and spoken English with the ability to edit and proof in English as well.
  • Impeccable research, writing and analytical skills.
  • Efficient time management skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work remotely and with minimal supervision amidst the pandemic.

Candidates must be eligible to work in Kenya without visa sponsorship.


We are currently looking for individuals with the following experience:
Castor Vali requires US passport holders with experience in Maritime Security who hold the relevant qualifications to work at sea. Applicants must be able to prove prior experience of operating in a MARSEC role.

  • Maritime Firearms Competency Course Certificate
  • FPOS(i) or equivalent recognised medical trauma training
  • STCW (Elementary First Aid, Fire fighting & Fire Prevention, Personal Survival Techniques and Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities)
  • ENG1
  • Clean criminal background check (DBS check or national equivalent)

Job Title: Maritime Security Officer (MSO)
Duration of Contract: 12 months (Two (2) Month Rotation initial contract)
Reporting Supervisor: Offshore Manager
Duty Location: Ghana (Offshore)
Start Date: December 2nd 2019 or upon agreement

Summary: The Maritime Security Officer shall work offshore on-board exploration vessels for approximately two months per rotation. Responsibilities include but not limited to conducting vessel vulnerability assessments and supporting vessel security needs.

Experience: 3+ years’ experience in the Maritime Security industry or related discipline. Over 2 years’ experience working and supporting explorations vessels in high-risk waters. No less than 100 sea days in the role of Maritime Security Officer.

Qualifications and Certification required:

  • BOSIET Certificate, HUET Certificate and MIST certificate
  • Seaman’s Discharge Book & Seaman’s Card
  • STCW – Elementary First Aid; Personnel Safety & Social Responsibility; Personal Survival; Elementary Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention
  • ENG1 Seafarers Medical (Or equivalent)
  • Maritime Firearms Competency Certificate (MFCC)

Job Title: Offshore Manager
Duration of Contract: 12 months. (Two (2) Month Rotation initial contract)
Reporting Supervisor: Director, Operations
Duty Location: Offshore Ghana
Start Date: December 2nd, 2019 or upon agreement

Summary: The Offshore Security Manager shall work offshore on-board exploration vessels for approximately two months per rotation. Responsibilities include coordinating all security project plans; and assisting the vessel Master with offshore incident response and crisis management.

Experience: 5+ years in the Maritime Security industry in a management capacity. Having over 3 years’ experience working and supporting explorations vessels in high-risk waters. No less than 100 sea days in the role of Offshore Security Manager.

Qualifications and Certification required:

  • BOSIET Certificate, HUET Certificate and MIST certificate
  • Seaman’s Discharge Book & Seaman’s Card

Job Title: Operations Manager
Duration of Contract: 12 months
Reporting Supervisor: Director, Operations
Duty Location: Accra (frequent travel is required)
Start Date: December 1st, 2019 or upon agreement

Summary: The Operations Manager has responsibility for developing, fostering and supporting the company safety and process-driven culture while managing daily operations which includes providing direction in logistics, safety, quality control, compliance, regulatory, operational and administrative matters.

Experience / Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years, well-rounded experience in International Security and Oil & Gas operations in Africa. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University in Operations Management or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related discipline.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Strong IT skills/proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Knowledge of the security industry including Offshore, Land and Energy sectors
  • Current threat knowledge of the Africa region

Job Title: Business Development Manager
Duration of Contract: 12 months
Reporting Supervisor: Director, Operations
Duty Location: Accra (frequent travel is required)
Start Date: December 1st, 2019 or upon agreement

Summary: Responsible for identifying, pursuing and closing new accounts, manage existing accounts and expanding sales and revenue through account growth within the Oil & Gas, and wider Security Sector. This individual will interface with domestic and foreign Oil & Gas clients.

Experience / Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 7+ years of professional experience in a sales/BD role; or 5+ years of professional experience with a related master’s degree. Be culturally sensitive and interested in geopolitical issues of the region.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Strong IT skills/proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Knowledge of security industry including Offshore, Land and Energy sectors
  • Current threat knowledge of the Africa region
