Introduction
This example demonstrates how Castor Vali’s TrackAssist platform, in collaboration with our Security Information Service and Travel Risk Management Service, can prepare and support business travellers heading to high-risk regions like Libya. This case illustrates the process and tools a security team might utilise to strengthen their Travel Risk Management Policy, ensuring thorough preparation and monitoring before, during, and after travel.
Challenge
A Security Manager responsible for overseeing travel safety to high-risk destinations such as Libya, would typically need to evaluate several factors, including potential risks such as civil unrest, insurgency, and terrorism. This requires reviewing travel itineraries, accommodations, and local conditions to provide necessary support and compliance with the company’s policy for high-risk destinations.
Solution
In this example, the Security Manager reviews the traveller’s itinerary and destination risks using TrackAssist, our travel risk management and intelligence platform developed in collaboration with our technical partner Safeture. Libya is flagged for high risks, including civil unrest and the potential for armed conflict.
To help the traveller be well-prepared for any unexpected situations, the Security Manager subscribes them to Castor Vali’s Security Information Service, allowing them to fully understand the security situation in Libya through daily and weekly reports prior to travel.
The Security Manager can then use Castor Vali’s Travel Risk Management Services to arrange meet-and-greet assistance at the airport and assign a dedicated security detail for safe road travel based on recommendations from a route risk assessment. Travellers are also encouraged to use the TrackAssist mobile app for real-time country information and security alerts.
The TrackAssist Portal provides the Security Manager with an overview of all travellers worldwide, allowing them to immediately locate, assist, and communicate with travellers in any situation.
During the trip, if the traveller encounters incidents like civil unrest or a potential carjacking, TrackAssist will provide real-time alerts, facilitating immediate communication with Castor Vali’s 24-hour operations centre. For example, in the event of a carjacking threat, the operations centre and on-ground security team could quickly determine an alternative route to avoid danger, successfully averting the situation.
Outcome
In this scenario, the traveller could successfully complete their business trip with minimal disruption despite the challenging security environment. TrackAssist’s real-time alerts and communication tools allow Castor Vali’s operations centre to locate and assist the traveller, coordinating with the on-ground Travel Risk Management team to manage incidents effectively and ensure the traveller’s safety.
Post-travel, a data-driven analysis using TrackAssist’s analytics module could help identify areas for improvement, such as stricter travel authorisation for high-risk destinations and increased adoption of the TrackAssist app among employees. By providing reassurance when operating in unfamiliar countries, we help organisations cultivate a culture of safe travel. With assistance from Castor Vali’s security advisors, clients can continuously refine their Travel Risk Management Policy, ensuring they maintain high standards of duty of care for their personnel.
